911 Lone Star’s fourth season premiered on Tuesday, January 24, with fans finally finding out the secret of Carlos Reyes that was being hyped up before the premiere.

The show’s third season ended with, fan-favourite couple, Tarlos, T.K. Strand (Ronen Rubinstein) and Carlos (Rafael Silva) getting engaged.

‘The New Hotness’ opens with a county fair as we see Caleb and Brianna, a young couple who have run into trouble in two previous seasons.

In season one’s episode ‘Act of God, Caleb accidentally locks himself inside his parent’s gun safe with Brianna having to call 911, while in season three’s episode ‘The ATX-Files’ Caleb gets himself stuck in a barbed wire fence.

In the opening scene of the fair, Caleb has purchased a stuffed bear for Brianna when he suddenly needs to go use the washroom after eating some food that didn’t agree with him. Running off, Caleb finds a porta-potty to use. While in it, a sudden heatwave, the after result of a derecho storm, suddenly comes over the town, and with the heavy winds accompanying it, the porta-potty Caleb is in, suddenly goes flying through the air.

The episode then takes us back to eight hours earlier, opening to a scene in the 126 fire station.

We learn T.K. and Carlos have been touring wedding venues, and just that morning, they had toured their 14th venue, which T.K. fell in love with, but because it was so perfect, the wait-list for it was 18 months long.

We also learn that on the way to work, firefighter Judson Ryder got cut off by “some jerk” on a motorcycle, which later turns out to be fire captain Owen Strand, who has somehow found his way into hanging out with a Nazi biker gang.

The episode then takes us to a food truck, where Carlos is seen getting lunch with his mother. During lunch, he gets a phone call from the wedding venue saying they have a cancellation and it’s available in eight weeks, which then leads to his mother, Andrea Reyes, finding out her son hasn’t told T.K. the truth.

Their lunch, however gets cut short, as the derecho storm hits, with green skies rolling in and pouring rain coming down fast.

We then jump to the first 126 response of the season, as they get called to the county fair because of flying frogs. A young girl ends up taking the phone from her father when he’s on call with 911 when a frog falls into his throat.

T.K., Nancy Gillian, and Tommy Vega help the father, Trevor, with Tommy eventually doing the heimlich maneuver to get the frog out. Elsewhere on the fair grounds, the firefighters locate and help an elderly lady in a collapsed booth and then shield her on the stretcher from hail.

Arriving back to the firehouse, Carlos has shown up to tell T.K. the truth, and we get T.K. calling Carlos ‘baby’ for the first time this season. In the bunk room, we find out Carlos is currently married, in name only, to a woman, his best friend. Not feeling as if he was accepted by his parents, he got married to his friend, who turns out to be Iris Blake, the younger sister of Michelle, the paramedic captain in season one, and who had gone missing and was presumed dead throughout season one.

With Iris’ return at the end of season one, and returning with schizophrenia, it made sense to Carlos to stay married to her as his health insurance would help her. Knowing he and T.K. now only have eight weeks to get married complicates things as the state of Texas requires somebody to be divorced a full month before they can get married again.

We later see Carlos arrive at a shelter looking for Michelle and Iris. He tells Iris everything, who doesn’t agree to sign the divorce papers until she meets and approves of T.K.

In a parallel scene to the season one scene where Michelle asks Carlos about T.K. and he replies with ‘He’s a ten,’ we see Iris asking Carlos about T.K. and him saying ‘He’s the one,’ with a bright smile on his face.

Eight hours has passed, and the 126 gets called back to the county fair, where we find out the porta-potty Caleb was in flew in to the fair’s dunk tank and is now taking on water.

The firefighters then get brought to the zipper ride where a fire has broken out on the ride’s control system, trapping the last two occupants, Trevor and his daughter, at the top of the ride, which results in them having to jump from their cart to land in a tarp the firefighters are holding up.

Later, in the triage tent, Tommy gives Trevor her number, saying her daughters are the same age as his. When she later finds out he’s the new pastor at her church, she realizes she made a pass at her pastor, who may become her love interest later in the season.

The episode ends with an FBI agent knocking on Owen’s door saying the FBI would like him to infiltrate the nazi biker gang he has unfortunately gotten involved with.

Episode two, ‘The New Hot Mess,’ will be airing on January 31.

4×02 synopsis: “Captain Strand and the 126 race to the rescue when a woman is trapped in her mobile house that has been hijacked by her ex; Owen has a run-in with former nemesis Sgt. O’Brien and is then questioned by the FBI; Tommy asks Grace dating advice; T.K. and Carlos meet with Iris Blake.
