911 Lone Star 4×03 ‘Cry Wolf’ Review

Carlos before he heads out to search for Iris – Photo edited by @Silvarubinstein

Cry Wolf began right where episode two left off, with Owen Strand noticing Sgt. O’Brien in his house, and O’Brien asking Owen to go for a ride with him. O’Brien takes Owen to his nephew’s wife’s house, where the audience finds out that O’Brien’s nephew has gotten tangled up in the Honor Dogs crew, and O’Brien is trying to find him and bring him home.

The episode then takes us to the Tarloft, where detective Grier is seen questioning T.K. and Carlos about Iris’ disappearance. Grier’s line of questioning makes it seem as if she suspects Carlos is involved in Iris’ disappearance. T.K. then reveals he went to see Iris and ask her about the divorce papers the day before, and a shocked Carlos begins to suspect Iris may have been set off by T.K. showing up at her place of work.

After Grier leaves, Carlos grabs his coat and heads out to search for Iris, saying he’s starting his shift early.

Enter the first 126 rescue of the episode. A call comes in to dispatch in which a guy’s girlfriend has fell over a cliff. When they get there, the woman is motionless at the bottom of the cliff. Owen sends Marjan and Paul down the cliff to rescue her, and while that is happening, Carlos arrives at the scene, saying there are reports someone saw a woman be thrown off the cliff. Believing the woman is Iris because the woman matches her description, Carlos heads over to go question the supposed ‘boyfriend.’ When the boyfriend begins getting antsy at Carlos’ questioning Carlos begins to become angry in his questioning. Detective Grier shows up and calls Carlos off of questioning the boyfriend, still suspicious of Carlos.

When Marjan and Paul turn the woman over, it is revealed the woman is a sex doll. The boyfriend suffers from attachment disorder and he and ‘Chrissy’ have been together for over two years. He decided to call 911 after throwing her off the cliff, and in order to have him have closure, the 126 paramedics begin ‘treating’ Chrissy and then declare her ‘dead.’

During this whole call, Carlos is obviously ignoring T.K. since their argument the night before, with Carlos not giving T.K. eye contact and not speaking to him at all.

Owen is later seen meeting with FBI Agent Rose Casey, as she gets him another listening device to plant in the Honor Dogs office. As she’s grabbing the new listening device, Owen casually wanders into the FBI’s office and spots a photo of O’Brien’s nephew on one of the boards. Grabbing it, he replaces it with a takeout menu, yeah, totally clever, Owen.

At the 911 dispatch center, Grace Ryder receives a call from a woman who has been abducted, and it turns out to be Iris Blake. Iris says she’s in a room, and the man who abducted her is sleeping on a mattress by the door. Grace calls Carlos over the radio, and says Iris is on the phone. With some details from Carlos on where Iris’ car was found the night before, and how long the drive to the house felt like to Iris, Grace is able to pinpoint what neighbourhood Iris is being held in, Laurel Commons, which turns out to be full of a bunch of foreclosure houses.

Arriving to the Laurel Commons, SWAT and police are told to begin searching houses. As they’re searching, the man wakes up and the call Iris made to 911 disconnects. As Grace tells Carlos the call has been disconnected, the sound of a female screaming can be heard across the street. As Carlos and the police officers storm into the house, Carlos finds an injured Iris and carries her from the house.

While Iris is being treated by the 126 paramedics, Carlos gets called over by detective Grier, who tells him there was no sign of the abductor.

Showing O’Brien the photo of his nephew, Owen reveals that two days before the photo was taken, a shipment of ammonium nitrite was stolen off a truck. Believing it could be held at the Honor Dog’s training facility, a place called The Farm, O’Brien says they need to get a member who can get them into The Farm.

At the hospital, Grier comes to question Iris, leading the audience to believe she doesn’t believe Iris’ story about being abducted and how it could possibly be her paranoid schizophrenia. Carlos asks why Grier doesn’t believe Iris, and she said the police had drones up above Laurel Commons when they arrived, and no one was seen entering or exiting any of the houses aside from the police.

Getting a call from Carlos about how there may have been no abductor, Tommy finds T.K. sitting alone in the 126 bunk room. As Tommy explains that mental illness is something you can’t cure, it’s something you treat, and it’s always there and there’s a chance you can be triggered again. With those words, T.K. heartbreakingly says “there’s a chance I may have loaded the gun.”

Managing to get their way on to The Farm, O’Brien and Owen find the shipment of ammonium nitrite, but when the FBI later raid the farm, the ammonium nitrite is no longer there. That’s when Agent Casey reveals to Owen that O’Brien is one of the founding members of the Honor Dogs, and Owen admits he revealed everything to O’Brien.

Later, sitting in his car that night, Carlos calls T.K. to tell him he’s staying with Iris. Instead, Carlos has gone back to the house where Iris had been kept, and goes searching for clues. Finding a panel in the back of the closet in the room Iris had been in, Carlos finds a tunnel, and as he crawls along under the house, he comes out the other side of the tunnel in another house, completely furnished. Only seconds into entering the second house from the tunnel, Carlos gets hit over the head with a shovel as the episode ends.

Based on next week’s episode promo, Carlos is being held captive by a serial killer and is going to be tortured. T.K., worried about Carlos, goes searching for Carlos with Carlos’ father, Gabriel. We can only hope Carlos is found alive, as time will be ticking for him.

So far, episode 3 has been my favourite so far because we got plenty of paramedic T.K. scenes, plenty of scenes of Carlos working in uniform, and hurt Carlos, which us fans have been asking for since season 1! I believe episode 4 will instantly become my new favourite episode next week, though, as Ronen Rubinstein, the actor who plays T.K., keeps saying episode 4 is his favourite, and he never steers us fans wrong!

Episode four, ‘Abandoned,’ will be airing on February 14.

4×04 synopsis: As Owen wears an FBI wire for his meeting with O’Brien, the Honor Dogs crash the meet-up and let them know there’s an infiltrator in their midst. A frantic T.K. desperately searches for a missing and held captive Carlos.
