Tarlos Wedding Planning
The episode opens with T.K. and Carlos showing off their wedding suits to T.K.’s father Owen, as well as two 126 firefighters, Nancy and Mateo. As they show off their wedding suits, Owen expresses his opinion, saying they don’t work and lists reasons, such as the pocket squares and the entire colour scheme of the suits. As Owen says the line, “this wedding will be out of control,” this leads into him being a dadzilla in controlling the planning of the wedding.

Later, as Carlos joins T.K. at the fire station for lunch, Owen declares he has set up a cake tasting at his house for the following day, explaining he found a cake that is gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free. When Mateo points out that Owen wants yacht rock as the music for the wedding, Carlos realizes they need to reel Owen in on the wedding planning.

Enter Andrea, Carlos’ mom. At first, she’s disappointed the boys didn’t come to ask her for her help earlier, and when she finds out Owen has taken over control of the wedding planning, she refuses to step in and ruin her relationship with the in-law. But as soon as Carlos mentions the cake will be gluten-free, Andrea freaks out and agrees to help reel Owen in.

The next day, Andrea, T.K. and Carlos arrive to Owen’s for the cake tasting. Trying two cakes, it’s revealed that the cake Andrea loved most was the gluten-free cake, but as soon as T.K. and Carlos try it, they both love it, although they have a hard time physically admitting it, with Carlos mumbling, “that’s delicious, actually.”
Moving over to his laptop, Owen then shows Andrea, T.K. and Carlos some flower ideas, and as T.K. says they want to keep it simple, Andrea says they need more drama, leading Owen and Andrea to both decide on Orchids.

Later, at the florist, T.K. and Carlos find out just how crazy Owen has gone on the wedding planning. They find out there will be one Orchid arrangement on each table, except for the grooms’ table, which will have three. When T.K. and Carlos reveal they kind of wanted Roses or Lilacs, Owen supposes the Orchids could go in the flower arch, leading T.K. to question, “theres’ a flower arch now?”
When it’s revealed there will be four flower arches, T.K. loses it, saying, “we don’t like flower arches, or orchids. What we really liked was our pocket squares, remember those?” When Owen says he and Andrea are doing this for T.K. and Carlos, T.K. blows up at his father, firing him from wedding planning, before storming out of the florist.
Later on, at Owen’s, Andrea admits they did get a bit carried away, and mentions this isn’t the first time she didn’t listen to her son. She then goes on to reveal that when Carlos first came out to his parents, Andrea and Gabriel weren’t as supportive as they could have been, which she now realizes she wished she had been more supportive.
The episode ends with Owen showing up at the Tarloft with a bottle of olive oil as an olive branch, and admits he went overboard on the wedding planning. Explaining he did so because this is the last thing T.K. would need from him, T.K. explains he’ll always need his best friend, as well as advice about being married and later on, advice and help on being a dad himself.

Marjan
On her road trip in finding what her purpose in life is, Marjan encounters a social media influencer, Kylie, and her boyfriend, Grant, who’s RV has broken down. Stopping to help fix their RV, Marjan later finds a note on her motorcycle from Kylie saying, “help me. He’s going to kill me.”
Heading to the next rest stop where she knows Kylie and Grant took their RV to the mechanic, Marjan eventually follows Kylie into the washroom in the diner. When Marjan reveals she found her note, Kylie breaks down, saying Grant abuses her and is getting worse, as she shows Marjan a bruise on her neck.
Enlisting the help of a trucker, Patty, Marjan is able to organize a ride for Kylie, but they need to distract Grant in order for Kylie to get away. As it’s announced that the RV is suddenly ready, Marjan asks Patty to give her ten minutes. Tampering with the RV, Marjan chats with Grant and the mechanic as Kylie slips away to Patty’ truck. When Grant notices Kylie is no longer next to him, Marjan tells him he’ll never see her again. Noticing Patty’s truck then, Grant watches it pull away, only to see Kylie standing where it had just left from, leading Grant to say she’s always been weak.
As Kylie and Grant are back on the road, Grant gaslights Kylie, saying he’s the only one who cares for her and that Marjan is gone. As the camera pans outside the RV, the audience sees Marjan trailing the RV on her motorcycle. Stopping for gas, he tells Kylie to come inside with her, where he can always have an eye on her. Later, back on the road, Grant and Kylie start arguing, and after he pulls off to the side of the road, he hits Kylie. Marjan, who had been hiding in the back room of the RV, comes out at that point, filming. When Grant lunges for Marjan’s phone, she punches him, and then knocks him out with a fire extinguisher. Later, as Grant is being taken away by police, Kylie tells Marjan her calling is helping rescue people, leading into Marjan heading back to Austin in the next episode.
126 Rescue
The 126 rescue this episode was a car accident in which a father, Kevin, was giving his son, Wesley, a driver’s ed lesson.
As Kevin takes over the driver’s seat, he suddenly has a heart attack, with his foot pressing down on the gas leading to the car going up the guy-wires of a utility pole and leaving it electrified with Kevin and Wesley inside.
As Paul and Mateo go up the fire engine’s ladder to rescue Kevin and Wesley, it takes a little bit of prompting to get Kevin out of the car. Once Wesley is also out of the car and the ladder is swung away, the car explodes seconds later.
As Kevin is being wheeled to the ambulance, T.K. tells him they’ll be taking him to West Park Hospital, leading Kevin to say the 35 will be a parking lot at that hour and suggesting they take surface streets to Saint Raymond’s instead, with T.K., Nancy and Tommy realizing their patient is a control freak.
Thoughts
The end scene between Owen and T.K. was really sweet and much needed, as their relationship hasn’t been as close as it was in season one. I really hope we see more of T.K. and Owen’s relationship throughout this season, and hopefully, season five.
I think this episode, sadly, did a terrific job of portraying a domestic violence relationship. As was shown with Kylie, many domestic violence victims have a hard time leaving their abuser.
I really enjoyed how Lone Star broke up the domestic abuse storyline amongst the wedding planning, because I would not have been able to handle a full storyline of Kylie’s story.
T.K. was really bitchy towards Owen this episode, especially at the florist. When he and Carlos found out there’d be three Orchid arrangements on their table, T.K. mumbles, “wow, it’s going to get really jungly in there,” which was my favourite T.K. line of the whole episode.
We also got the sweet scene of Carlos having lunch at the fire station with T.K., and got to see them share their food, which was super sweet and adorable!

Next Episode
Episode 4×09, ‘Road Kill,’ airs on March 21.
4X09 synopsis: On her way back to Austin, Marjan is in for the fight of her life when she is targeted by a killer.
‘Road Kill’ will bring the return of Grant. Angered by the events in ‘Control Freaks,’ Grant hunts Marjan down, trying to kill her. When Owen realizes Marjan is missing, he, Paul and Judd head out in search of her, and when they find her, rush her to the hospital, as there will be a scene in the episode where the entire 126 crew is in the hospital waiting room.
We are also going to see Marjan interact with a young girl following her car crash, which leads me to believe the girl is a young version of Marjan, and a figment of her imagination as Marjan struggles to live. This leads me to believe we’ll get to see a Marjan ‘begins’ episode, and I am excited to watch that!
